Jamie Pugh lied to the judges on Britain’s Got Talent when he told them that he had never performed before a live audience, it has been claimed.

Before his rendition of ‘Bring Him Home’ from Les Miserables, judge Simon Cowell asked the pizza delivery man if he had ever sung in front of a crowd before, to which he replied “no”.

However, The Sun obtained video footage of Pugh singing a number of Rod Stewart songs as part of a group at Her Majesty’s West End theatre, as well as taking tentative lead vocals for a cover of Louis Armstrong’s ‘What A Wonderful World’.

Pugh told the newspaper: “I have previously performed as part of a group but I never sang alone. It didn’t go that well.”

An audience member at the 2006 show said: “I couldn’t believe it when I saw him on Britain’s Got Talent saying he had never performed in front of an audience before.”

Jamie Pugh, I nearly Quit

Jamie Pugh, I nearly Quit

Jamie Pugh has said that he nearly left the set of Britain’s Got Talent before he even began his audition.

The 38-year-old widowed  pizza delivery man won three “Yes” votes from the judges after his  performance of ‘Bring Him Home’ from Les Miserables on last weekend’s show.

Pugh told The Mirror: “I wanted to go home. I didn’t sleep for three days before and I’m now on 40 fags a day.

“This is going to sound really weird – I fear success but I don’t fear failure. I’ve failed at a lot of things and I fear success because I’m Jamie. I’ve got to appear on a TV show and I’m dreading it.”

He added: “I’m a wreck – I’m not a star.”

His 35-year-old partner Donna Davies said: “When Jamie wanted to walk out of the audition I threatened him with divorce – well not quite because we aren’t married. But I said, ‘You have to do it. Go for the ride and see what happens.’”
